Reproductive Health Equity and Birth Justice CORE

Purpose:

The Reproductive Health Equity and Birth Justice (RHE&BJ) CORE was developed as an adjunct study to PRIORITY, a nationwide study of pregnant people either under investigation for, or confirmed to have, COVID-19. This project seeks to provide a platform within PRIORITY study for authentic and transparent community engagement within BIPOC and queer communities. The establishment of this CORE will ensure that Reproductive Health Equity and Birth Justice are deeply rooted in the PRIORITY study by accomplishing the following aims:

Aim 1: To develop the Reproductive Health Equity and Birth Justice CORE from existing projects that currently provide platforms for authentic and transparent community engagement within BIPOC communities.

Aim 2: To identify existing and develop new survey items to measure the impact of racism, poverty, and care experiences in adverse outcomes among BIPOC birthing people with COVID-19.

Aim 3: To deploy the Research Priorities of Affected Communities (RPAC) in six regions of the U.S. differentially impacted by COVID-19, to determine the research question and priorities that are important to BIPOC communities.

Planned Activities

In order to strengthen the BIPOC and queer representation in the PRIORITY registry, the CERISH team plans to utilize targeted recruitment strategies and develop a nation-wide community advisory council. In addition, they will deploy the RPAC protocol in six regions of the U.S. most impacted by COVID-19, to determine the healthcare, policy and research questions and priorities that are important to BIPOC and queer communities.

RHE&BJ Core Team

Due to the historical harms of scientific research and medical racism, the RHE&BJ CORE is purposively built to ensure representation in the leadership structure and CORE leadership:
